Benefits of Membership
The CHPA is a strategic alliance among the manufacturers and distributors of homeopathic products sold in Canada. By working together we have succeeded in shaping Canada's regulatory environment for homeopathic medicines so that the majority of products sold in the United States and the EU are available to consumers and health care practitioners in Canada. This regulatory framework includes Health Canada's product licensing cost recovery fees that are set at a level that realistically reflects the number of product lines and sales volumes typical of homeopathic drugs, including those with limited market potential that are made available for humanitarian reasons.
However, Canada's regulatory framework is in a state of transition. Homeopathic medicines are to be included within the Natural Health Products category and become subject to the Natural Health Product Regulations that come into force on January 1, 2004. As a consequence of being part of this new sub-category of drug products, many additional homeopathic medicines will become eligible for product licenses, increasing access to products and consumer choice.
The association provides:
- A forum for discussion among its members on regulatory issues and government policies affecting market access and use of homeopathic medicines
- Professional representation to government and lobbying on behalf of the industry
- A credible and effective voice to work with regulators to resolve regulatory issues and constraints
- Updates and advisories from Health Canada and other federal government departments and agencies on the day of release or publication
- Coordinated consultations with health care practitioner associations at the provincial and national level`
- An annual meeting designed to inform and facilitate outreach on behalf of the industry to practitioner and consumer organizations.
